Luis Hinojosa, Principal

I am Luis Hinojosa, principal of THE East High School. I have been a middle school teacher, high school assistant principal, elementary principal and college instructor during my educational career. I am currently working on my doctorate at the University of Kansas and plan on graduating by December of 2020. I have an amazing wife and 3 awesome kids. My oldest son currently attends Johnson County Community College and is majoring in education as well. I am constantly asked, “What do you love about KCPS?”and my response has always been “the students”. We have awesome students who are brilliant, creative, passionate, tenacious, and caring. It’s my job to get that spotlight to shine on them so the world can see the powerful students we are producing at KCPS.

Shelia Dannar, Vice Principal

Sheila Dannar has completed an Educational Specialist degree at UMKC and is beginning her 23rd year as an educator in KCPS. She initially attended the University of Missouri – Columbia and obtained an undergraduate degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Spanish. She began teaching Spanish at Bingham Middle School in KCPS and later taught 4th grade at East Elementary School. After completing a Masters in Urban Leadership and Policy Studies at UMKC, Ms. Dannar began as an administrator in KCPS and has served in both elementary and middle schools prior to coming to East High School for the 2018-19 school year.

Bryan VanOsdale, Vice Principal

I am in my 20th year in education. I obtained a BS in Secondary Ed- Social Sciences and Business Administration, MS in Educational Psychology and Counseling, MA in Gender and Racial Studies, and my Ed.S in Educational Administration and Leadership. I am from East Tennessee and lived in Kansas City for 15 years. I am in my 6th year in KCPS. I spent 4 years at Whittier Elementary. Prior to coming to KCPS I was a social studies teacher in the secondary school at Derrick Thomas Academy. I will be in starting my second year at East. I take great pride in our global diversity at East High School. Go Bears!!!

Ben Richardson, Vice Principal

Ben Richardson has been a staff member at East High School since 2012, first as a teacher and coach and now as an administrator. Mr. Richardson has a Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education and History from Milligan College, and he has a Master's degree in Educational Administration from the University of Kansas. Mr. Richardson is a proud member of the East Bear community and loves sharing in the successes of the students and school.

Dr. Cleora Taylor, Vice Principal

Dr. Taylor has served in multiple roles throughout her 30 year career in Education. These positions include serving as the Director of Mathematics, a middle school teacher, a high school teacher, a middle school principal, a high school associate principal, a high school assistant principal, and a college professor. She is a native Dallas Texan who has earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Prairie View A&M University, a Master of Arts degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, an Educational Specialist degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, and a Doctoral degree from William Woods University in Educational Leadership. Her personal goal in education is to make every student achieve their highest potential. She wants every child to feel loved, supported, and respected. It is her hope that by instilling this confidence in them, it will catapult them into becoming all that they aspire to become.
